Samskrti is proud to announce the launching of a Sanskrit teaching course. For the last few decades, the Foundation has been teaching Sanskrit, Indian Philosophy and Literature informally to more than 50 students from abroad as well as from within India. Now the Foundation has embarked on a project to conduct regular formal systematic training in Sanskrit and allied topics. This is specifically focused on students from abroad, with little or no knowledge of Sanskrit. The salient features of the course will be as follows:

Details of the Course

The course will last for seven weeks, with the first course scheduled to begin in the first week of July, and continue until the end of August.

• Students having little or no knowledge of Sanskrit, studying in Universities abroad are eligible to attend the course.

• Persons who are not pursuing any specific course of study in a University, but who interested in learning Sanskrit, may also apply for the courses. Admission to the course is granted at the discretion of the Foundation.

• Each weekday will feature four classes of 45 – 50 minutes each. There will be holidays on weekends to enable the students to refresh as well as meet friends and pursue other interests.

• The subjects covered during these four periods will be as follows:

• Introduction to Sanskrit alphabets and Pronunciation: This will provide the student with a through grounding in reading and writing in Sanskrit.
• Spoken Sanskrit: This will enable the student to converse to a certain extent in Sanskrit at the end of the course.

• Lessons in Comprehension: This will enable the student to compose prose in the form of simple and complex sentences in Sanskrit. The student will also acquire basic level of expertise in translation between Sanskrit and English.

• Study of Sanskrit Literature: Some of the classical Sanskrit works will be taught under this program. Students will be able to appreciate the specialty of Sanskrit language and the thoughts contained in the content.

• Outline, history and scope of Sanskrit Literature: This will provide the student with an overview of Sanskrit literature, from the Vedic texts to works of modern Sanskrit and its utility to the modern world.

• Vedic recitation: Simple Vedic recitation and recitation of other devotional literature will be taught to the students to acquaint them with the beauty of Sanskrit language.

• Separate course material for the above will be supplied to all participants.

• Students are free to omit some of the classes, depending on their interest and other factors. However, if a student opts for one particular topic of the above, then he / she will be expected to attend that particular class every day.

• The method used for coaching include:

• Direct lectures from Expert teachers, with teaching experience of a minimum of 10 years.
• Audio-Visual Media
• Other necessary means
• Fortnightly tests will be conducted to assess the progress of the student.

• Student feedback will be obtained from the student at the end of the first fortnight to address any problems that he / she may face with regard to the course and appropriate modifications will be made, within the framework of the program.

• One or two separate sight seeing tours will be conducted as part of the course, that will introduce the student to Indian culture and history. The cost of this tour is not included in the course fee, and will have to be paid separately. If any student is not interested in the tour, he/she may inform the course coordinator.

• The maximum number of students in a class will be 25.

    distance from the place of residence of the course attendees.
  • There will be two periods of classes of 45 - 50 mintues each in the
    morning as well as evening (total four periods in a day)
  • Timings will be very strictly adhered to and there will be no spill
    over or modification.
  • The accepted syllabus will be strictly followed and there will be
    no digressions.

Location of the course
  1. The course will be conducted in the serene and cultural city of Mysore, a city of great antiquity, with all modern facilities, in Karnataka in South India. Between July and November, the weather at Mysore will be very pleasant, with the maximum temperature will not above 30 Degrees Celsius.

The Course fee includes
  1. • Registration fee for the course.

    • The entire cost of lodging during the period of the course.

    • The students will be lodged in an apartment, in an area that is calm and conducive for education, near the heart of the city of Mysore. The apartment will have all modern amenities like clean, good toilets, 24 hour running water, beds and mattresses, and other basic amenities.

    • Tuition fees, together with the study material, lectures etc.

    • A memento to be presented at a function at the end of the course.

    • Certificate of merit to indicate successful completion of the course.

  1. Meals. If the student prefers to have his food arranged independently, the Foundation will arrange for the same at separate cost. The Foundation has facilities to arrange for pure, clean vegetarian food. One breakfast, one lunch, one dinner and snacks is the general arrangement . Approximate cost of the same will be indicated to the student after his / her registration. Special requests can be taken, subject to the convenience of the organizers. However, the student is free to arrange for his / her own food.

    • If the students are desirous of having classes other those provided , the Foundation will arrange for the same, at separate cost. This includes Yoga, Indian Music (both vocal and instrumental) and other allied topics. The Foundation has a panel of experts who are well versed in imparting education in these fields. The Foundation will introduce the students to them and arrange for the classes in the respective subjects.

    • After the finishing of the formal course, if any student is desirous of continuing his / her education in any field, the Foundation will try to make suitable arrangements for the student to do so at separate cost. (This cost is not included in the course fee.)

    • Pick up at Bangalore airport and transport to the location of the course.

    • Sightseeing of in and around Mysore city.

    • Escorts to different places of sightseeing as well as specific personal interest to the particular student in and around Mysore city subject to availability.

    • Swimming pool facility.

    • Any other facilities subject to availability

Expected Code of conduct during the course
  1. • The students participating in the course are expected to wear appropriate dress (western or eastern) during class hours .

    • Food is prohibited during class hours.

    • Smoking and consuming of alcoholic drinks are prohibited during the class hours. Consuming of illegal drugs etc. is totally prohibited.

    • Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectable manner.

    • The students participating in the course are expected to wear appropriate dress (western or eastern) during class hours .

    • Food is prohibited during class hours.

    • Smoking and consuming of alcoholic drinks are prohibited during the class hours. Consuming of illegal drugs etc. is totally prohibited.

    • Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectable manner.

Medical facilities during the course
  1. Healthcare is the sole responsibility of the student and the Foundation is not responsible whatsoever for the same. However, in case of any disease, the Foundation may be able to suggest suitable doctors

Method of registration, Payment of fees etc
  1. • Interested students are requested to complete the online form given in this website. They will then be informed other details, mode of payment etc. It is preferable that they express their interest at the earliest, since there is a heavy demand among students to attend the course.

    • Fees for items not included in the course fee may be paid at the beginning of the course. Details of the same will be given in advance on request.

    • If students opt out of the course at the last moment, they will forfeit the advance amount of 50% paid. The amount exceeding the 50% of the fees will be refunded to them.
